The Future of Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is the capital city of Cambodia and it is also considered as  the heart of the country. Long ago, Phnom Penh was just a man-made mountain where Doun Penh (Grandma Penh) and people created to be a pagoda. After Cambodia became an independent country in 1953, Phnom Penh had changed to be a very beautiful city in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, Phnom Penh was a dead city during Pol Pot Regime. Luckily, after the Pol Pot Regime, Phnom Penh is now being developed step by step. According to the government strategy and my imagination in 2020, Phnom Penh will progress in many factors.

Primarily, Phnom Penh will has many sky scrapers which make Phnom Penh look like a morden city in Europe and America. Condos, apartments, large shopping malls, high grade hotels, science museums will appear in Phnom Penh city. We will see a lot of sky trains, toll ways, U-turns, sub ways, high way around this city. Moreover, the city will become very crowded. In the streets, there will be lots of modern beautiful cars, buses, cable trains like in London. All night, if we look from suburb a bit from Phnom Penh, we will see the city look so beautiful and bright.

Next, people of Phnom Penh are rich and educated. People are able to travel around the world because most of them are English speakers. They can speak many languages such as English, Chinese, and Spanish… This leads people to have living standard. The city becomes very crowded with cosmopolitan; a lot of nations are living together in Phnom Penh. Also the cost of living is so high; moreover, many people from countryside move to Phnom Penh.

The business in Phnom Penh will grow very fast and business practices are lively. There will be many large companies, and giant corporations are establish in Phnom Penh. People will know and understand what stock market is. More and more investors will come to Phnom Penh and many good jobs are created  and done by Phnom Penh people.


Moreover, education in Phnom Penh is very strong. This mean modern schools and big universities are created. Phnom Penh education standard will be recognized around the world. Phnom Penh can produce human resource for companies in city. Furthermore, students do not need to study in other countries becuause education standard here is qualified.

Finally, Phnom Penh city will be full of joy and fun. People are westernized and they become independent. We will see many entertainment parks, concerts, cinemas around the city. Phnom Penh will have what it never had before like Disney’s Land, the world of fun and joy. The city will bright day and night, and the activities are happened day and night.

Inconclusion, this is my dream of Phnom Penh in the year 2020. I hope this dream will come true, and everything I said will happened in 2020.

Metfone’s major fibre expansion

Metfone has claimed to control more than 80 percent of Cambodia’s fibre-optic network, allowing it to reach every commune in the Kingdom. The firm said it contributed 16,000 kilometres of fibre-optic backbone to Cambodia’s total of about 20,000 kilometres, citing a February report from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. The last 20 percent was split between Telecom Cambodia and Cambodia Fibre Optic Communication Network Company (CFOCN), the company said. Metfone, which is owned by Viettel, a subsidiary of the Vietnamese military, claimed its cable deployment, all of which has been done since the company received an investment licence in 2006, was “13 times as high as the total national optical backbone developed by the whole country during previous 10 years”. “Metfone is currently the owner of the biggest capacity and largest coverage fiber network in Cambodia,” Metfone said in a statement released earlier this month. Chasing China’s rice import potential

THURSDAY, 25 AUGUST 2011 15:01 DON WEINLAND AND MAY KUNMAKARA CHINA  National Cereal, Oil and Foodstuffs Corporation (COFCO) is the latest mainland Chinese company to sign a deal to export Cambodian rice. The deal inked with Cambodia’s Angkor Rice provides for exports of 1,000 tonnes of rice. COFCO is one of a number of Chinese companies that have signed similar deals with their Cambodian counterparts, but  direct rice exports to China are yet to begin in earnest. Cambodia’s rice exports are awaiting approval from Chinese inspectors, experts say.
